How to Build a Sub-Reseller Network That Earns While You Sleep

The difference between a VTU reseller earning ₦50,000/month and one earning ₦300,000/month is usually one thing — sub-resellers.

A sub-reseller network means other people are selling under you. They handle their own customers, process their own transactions and build their own client base. You set the rates, fund their wallets and earn from every transaction they make — without lifting a finger.

This guide will show you exactly how to build that network from scratch.

How Sub-Resellers Work on PayStar

On PayStar, as a Pro or Elite reseller, you can create sub-reseller accounts directly from your dashboard.

Here is how the money flows:

  1. You buy data at your Pro rate — say ₦270 for 1GB MTN

  2. You set your sub-reseller's buying price — say ₦300 for 1GB

  3. Your sub-reseller sells to their customers at ₦350

  4. Sub-reseller earns ₦50 profit per GB

  5. You earn ₦30 per GB without doing anything

When your sub-reseller does 100 transactions a day at ₦30 spread, you earn ₦3,000/day from just that one sub-reseller. With 10 active sub-resellers, that is ₦30,000/day — ₦900,000/month.

Step 1 — Set Up Your Sub-Reseller System

Before recruiting anyone, set up your system properly.

On your PayStar dashboard:

  • Go to Sub-Resellers section

  • Define your pricing tiers — what rate will you give sub-resellers?

  • Set a minimum wallet funding amount (recommend ₦5,000 minimum)

  • Prepare an onboarding message explaining how everything works

Pricing strategy: Your sub-reseller rate should be above your cost but below retail market price. This gives them a healthy margin to profit and gives you a consistent spread.

Example for MTN 1GB:

  • Your cost: ₦270

  • Sub-reseller buying rate: ₦300

  • Recommended retail price: ₦350–₦400

  • Your profit: ₦30 per transaction

Step 2 — Find Your First Sub-Resellers

The best first sub-resellers are people already trying to make money — not people you have to convince from scratch.

Where to find them:

1. Your existing customers Your best customers already understand the value of your service. Some of them are buying ₦5,000–₦10,000 of data monthly for personal use or reselling manually. Approach them directly.

2. Student WhatsApp groups Post in university and polytechnic WhatsApp groups. Students are always looking for side income. A message like this works:

"I'm looking for 5 serious people to join my VTU reseller network. I supply data at wholesale prices. You sell to your contacts and keep your profit. DM me to learn more."

3. Market associations and business groups Shopkeepers, POS operators and small business owners are perfect sub-resellers. They already have customer traffic daily.

4. Church and community groups Trust is high in these communities. A recommendation from one member creates a chain of referrals.

5. Social media Post on your Instagram and Facebook stories that you are building a reseller network. You will be surprised how many people respond.

Step 3 — Onboard Them Properly

Most sub-reseller networks fail because the leader does a poor job of onboarding. A confused sub-reseller is an inactive sub-reseller.

Your onboarding process should cover:

Day 1 — Account setup

  • Create their PayStar sub-reseller account

  • Walk them through the dashboard

  • Show them how to process a transaction

  • Fund their wallet with their first deposit

Day 1–3 — First sales

  • Help them identify their first 10 potential customers

  • Role play how to pitch their prices

  • Process their first 3 transactions together so they are confident

  • Celebrate their first sale with them — motivation matters

Week 1 — Support

  • Be available on WhatsApp to answer questions

  • Check in daily for the first week

  • Help them handle any failed transaction or customer complaint

  • Share marketing tips — what to post, what to say

Week 2 onwards — Independence

  • Move to weekly check-ins

  • Share performance data — how many transactions, how much volume

  • Encourage top performers with better rates

Step 4 — Set Their Prices Correctly

Pricing is where most new sub-reseller managers make mistakes. Set prices too high and your sub-resellers can't compete. Too low and they earn nothing and lose motivation.

The golden rule: Your sub-reseller should be able to profit at least ₦50–₦100 per transaction at a price that is still 10–15% below what telecom shops charge.

Research what people charge in your sub-reseller's area. Prices vary by location — what works in Lagos Island may not work in a smaller town.

Step 5 — Keep Your Sub-Resellers Active

Getting sub-resellers is the easy part. Keeping them active is the real work.

What kills sub-reseller motivation:

  • Slow response when they have questions

  • Poor margins that make the work feel worthless

  • Technical problems not resolved quickly

  • No sense of community or belonging

What keeps them active:

  • Weekly performance leaderboard shared in a group

  • Bonus rewards for top performers — extra wallet credit or rate discounts

  • Quick resolution of all issues within 1 hour

  • A WhatsApp group where they can share tips and support each other

Create a WhatsApp group for all your sub-resellers. Name it something motivating like "PayStar Network — [Your Name]". Post daily prices, tips and encouragement. This group becomes a community and dramatically increases retention.

Step 6 — Scale Your Network

Once your first 5 sub-resellers are consistently active, scale aggressively.

Target 50 sub-resellers within 6 months. With PayStar Elite you can have unlimited sub-resellers. Even if only 30% are consistently active, 15 active sub-resellers doing modest volume each adds up to serious income.

Build a second layer. Encourage your best sub-resellers to recruit their own sub-resellers. Help them set up their own mini-networks. You earn from every transaction across every layer.

Managing at Scale

When you have 20+ sub-resellers, manual management becomes impossible. Use these tools:

PayStar dashboard: See all sub-reseller transaction volumes in one place. Identify who is active and who is not.

Weekly broadcast messages: Send pricing updates, motivational content and tips to all sub-resellers at once via WhatsApp broadcast.

Monthly review calls: Group calls with your top 10 sub-resellers to celebrate wins, solve problems and set targets for the month ahead.

What You Need to Start

  • PayStar Pro account (up to 50 sub-resellers) or Elite (unlimited)

  • ₦50,000–₦100,000 initial capital to fund 5–10 sub-reseller wallets

  • A clear onboarding document to send new recruits

  • A WhatsApp group for your network

  • Patience for the first 30 days while momentum builds

The first month is the hardest. By month 3, if you have done the work, your sub-reseller network will be generating daily income that continues growing without proportional effort from you.

Upgrade to PayStar Pro or Elite to unlock sub-reseller management and start building your network today.
